Get Outside!

*Hike Monument Mountain, just minutes from Gedney Farm on Rt. 7 Between Stockbridge and Great Barrington. This hike features two trails with varying difficulty from easy to strenuous, but both offer outstanding views. The Poet's Hike is where Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne first became friends. monument mountain

*Take a lovely stroll on the greenway trail along the Housatonic River. river walk

* Visit Otis Reservoir and Tolland State Forest to swim, relax and catch some beautiful sites in East Otis. otis reservoir

*Also nearby is Olivia’s Outlook in West Stockbridge. Part of the Yukon Ridge, with hiking trails running north and south this vantage point offers perhaps the best view of Stockbridge Bowl. olivia's outlook

*The Norman Rockwell Museum preserves, studies and communicates with a worldwide audience the life, art and spirit of Norman Rockwell in the field of illustration. It is located just off Rt. 183 in Stockbridge. norman rockwell

*Saunter up to Pittsfield to visit the Berkshire Museum, home of myriad artifacts from ancient Egypt to China and across the globe and the millenia. berkshire museum

*Listen to the Boston Pops orchestra play at the legendary Tanglewood. This is one of Boston’s (and the world’s) premiere pops orchestras and Lenox is right off the Mass Turnpike. tanglewood

*Be mesmerized by ballet or musical theater at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center just up the road in Great Barrington. Mahaiwe hails as the leading year-round presenter of performing arts, film, and educational programs for the Southern Berkshires. mahaiwe

*Visit the former summer home of novelist Edith Wharton and sip coffee at the estate’s garden cafe. Located just off the Mass Turnpike in Lenox, this estate is a great visit on the trip in or out of Gedney. edith wharton
